Places to be visited in Delhi India Gate

One of the important place to be visited in Delhi is India Gate.

India Gate: is a war memorial designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens for the 90000 soldiers of the British Indian Army who lost their lives in the World War 1. Its hight is 42 meter and the name of the Indian soldiers who died in the World War 1 is inscribed on the wall of India Gate. Amar Jawan Jyoti (the flame of immortal warrior) is the flame buring since 1971 under the arch of India Gate where a rifle placed on its barrel. On top of the riffle a soldier's helmet is placed. It is guarded by the soldiers posted round the clock. It is become a custom now for the Prime Minister pay homage to the soldiers along with the Heads of Navy, Army and Air force on 26th January. (Republic Day). It is surrounded by a lush, green gardens and there are artificial lakes created which is used for boating.
Behind the India Gate there is an empty canopy designed by Lutyens. A straight road starting from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate is where the Republic Day Parade starts on 26th January every year.

Timing for visiting India Gate: It is an open place and can visit any time round the clock. It will be closed few days before Republic Day (26th January) due to security reasons.
