This is so fun, I had to show my son, he liked it too. Now he's talking about gravity, magnetic forces, on and on! He loves this stuff.
good
It's an amazement to me that so many people think this is a magnetic force that's causing this so called magical phenomenon. They don't even have the slightest idea what would happen if that was really a magnetic field that much strong.
It's just an optical illusion of a downward hill appearing to be going upward due to the surrounding geography.
Easily the gravity level could be checked by just a bottle of water. I agree with Prashant, If there was magnetic field of that strength, the place would have been totally different.
Anyways, it is a nice illusion to the mind. Would love to experience such illusions.
One of the wonders of Leh is the Magnetic hill. Located just outside leh, this hill is believed to have magnetic properties. We in the air force were told not to fly our planes close to this hill as the magnetic field can impact our electronics. To test the magnetic properties I once parked my jeep at a designated spot and as predicted my jeep started moving uphill on its own. When you visit leh make some time to visit this spot. You can see it for yourself.
The so called Magnetic Hill is actually an optical illusion and only one of the two words in 'magnetic hill' is true of the properties of this place. That being the word 'hill'. In the absence of the horizon because of mountains all around, the road seems to be going uphill towards the 'magnetic hill' but is in actual fact going downhill. Hence when people park up their cars in neutral, the car rolls towards the hill which seems to be uphill but is in fact the other way round. Try it with a ball next time you are there!
what will happen if some one makes a under ground highway

This is a very interesting Hub. I never knew this existed in Ladakh. We have one here in Canada too. Here's a link if you'd like to read more.
